St Mark's Court is a residential retrofit and extension in St John's Wood (NW8) by Residence One, transforming a late 19th-century mansion block on Abercorn Place, facing Abbey Road. The scheme, designed by Fathom Architects, creates 29 contemporary apartments across the retained and extended building, adding a new basement level and a fifth-floor mansard with rear terrace.
The project is structured as a low-carbon retrofit, retaining the existing brick structure and facade while introducing cork and clay-based insulation materials, an all-electric energy system, 93m² of photovoltaics, and living roof areas — targeting a 62% reduction in regulated carbon emissions. New bay windows, a glazed Abbey Road entrance, and residents' terraces and courtyard spaces are introduced throughout. Fathom Architects' scheme was shortlisted for the Housing Design Awards 2023.
